Glandyfi

A brief stop last night: highlight 9 whimbrel, 3 goosander, and a single snipe on the Meirionnydd side.
Various updates Wood warblers present in good numbers on NRW land in Cwm Einion with 8 singing males within 3 kms of Furnace yesterday, mainly in broadleaves but a few in conifers.  We've at last got pied flycatcher back nesting by the house, and this year a pair of garden warblers, and, a first, a pair of house sparrows in the garage. No swallows yet  though maybe not surprising as at least one of  last years adults was killed by a barn owl. This was unfortunate as it was the only "safe" nest site which marauding jays could not access. Good also this year is a pair of greenfinches, and dippers back as a breeding bird,  just downstream of the house. Pied wagtails nesting in the firewood pile will mean a delay in wood processing this year! An interesting record from Alan Rogers (Rogers and Taylor, Bow St) were 6 golden plover he saw on Dysgwylfa Fawr on 21st April.

Glandyfi and various

Glandyfi WeBS count very quiet this morning , highlight a  great white egret.   Other birds included 4 redshank on Meirionnydd saltings, osprey at the nest, a single curlew , and 5 grey lag geese.  Whilst working in forestry very few crossbills this year with only breeding sites I've seen so far in Cwm Einion and near Ponterwyd. Several willow warblers in Cwm Einion on Friday (9th), my first.  Good to have both grey wagtail and dippers breeding on the Einion at Furnace this year.   An intriguing find this year was a freshly predated grey heron eggshell in Glandyfi. Anyone know of  local nesting pair/pairs?

Cwm Einion

Superb male merlin hunting in Cwm Einion this afternoon
High tide. Kestrel, merlin and female hen harrier on the Meirionnydd saltmarsh- at one time all in view from the scope at the same time. Other birds included 24 common gulls, 2 goldeneye and a red kite.
